Can we change the board columns?

Yes. Boards support custom columns and work-in-progress limits. Tasks can be moved between columns to follow the process your team uses.

Do recurring tasks create themselves?

The Projects module registers a recurring-task scheduler that generates due task instances from configured recurring schedules. The installation's scheduler must be running.

Do we need Chat to use Projects?

No. Spaces, boards, tasks, wiki pages, and events are available within Projects. Chat adds optional message-to-task conversion and meeting-room connections when it is enabled.
